Education and Experience:  Ms. Sumrow received her Bachelor's, emphasis in ELA/Reading, and her Master's in Education Administration from Texas A & M Commerce. She has expressed her great love for students and learning through a 22 year career in education, first as a classroom teacher since 1995 (certified 1st through 8th, with ESL and GT) and then as a campus administrator and principal for the last 13 years. She is a conscientious and knowledgeable instructional leader with an extensive resume in public and charter schools, as well as being active in her community.

Education and Experience:  Mrs. Loomis graduated from Texas A & M University - Commerce with a Bachelor’s in Mathematics focused in education. She was a part of the wonderful LeoTeach program that is specifically for future secondary math and science teachers, with a focus on STEM. Mrs. Loomis joined the staff of Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy in 2016.

Education and Experience: Mrs. Toohey teaches 9th and 10th grade Computer Science and 6th and 7th grade Mathematics.  She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics from Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville with graduate work in Secondary Education Mathematics from University of Missouri-St. Louis.  She holds Project Lead The Way certifications in Computer Science A and Computer Science Principles and Texas Teacher Certifications in Mathematics in grades 4 through 12.  A former Electrical, Quality Control, and Statistical engineer, she has combined experience of more than 14 years.  She enjoys sharing her passion for math and engineering with her students.

Education and Experience: Mrs. Gore has been teaching for 34 years. Her experience in the classroom consists of first grade, music, science, math, and intervention classes. Additionally, she has three of years of administration experience in elementary. After receiving a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from University of Texas - Tyler, Mrs. Gore received her master’s from Texas A&M Commerce. Her joy from teaching comes from the growth and learning that she has seen and sees in students.

Education and Experience:  Kay Lynn Nimmo is a 1997 graduate of Cameron University in Lawton, OK. She began her teaching career in art education and taught in Wichita, KS for The Edison Project. There she received training in Success For All at Wichita State and specialized art instruction in New York. Mrs. Nimmo continued her education at The University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma in Chickasha, OK, and received her Elementary Education degree. Mrs. Nimmo then began her long career at Chattanooga Public Schools. There she taught all grades in many different subjects spanning from 1999 to 2014. She was honored by Cameron University as a mentor teacher in 2003, and she continued her education and became a Reading Specialist in 2004 completing her Masters Degree. In 2011 she was voted Teacher of The Year by her peers. Mrs. Nimmo relocated to the Greenville area in 2014 and taught at Campbell High School. She most recently completed her administrative masters level work at Texas A&M University in Commerce, TX.

Education and Experience: Mrs. Kelli Lacy attended Texas A&M University in Commerce, Texas, and received an undergraduate degree in Business Marketing, as well as a Masters in Business Administration. She is now married and has two daughters. Mrs. Lacy became a certified teacher in early 2015 and taught second-grade ELAR, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Her passion though is in English and Reading. She joined Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy its first year in 2016 and looks forward to teaching these young minds proper reading and writing.

Kenneth Martin, High/Middle School Science Teacher

Education and Experience: Kenneth Martin earned his BBA in Management from Texas Tech University and his MS in Earth Science from East Texas State University (Now Texas A&M Commerce). Mr. Martin has over 20 years of classroom teaching experience in Science and Math.  He has extensive real world experience in the chemical and trucking industries that bring a whole new level of knowledge to the classroom. Mr. Martin is married to his lovely wife and has 5 children and 3 grandchildren. Teaching was not his first professional choice, but it is his favorite. 

 

Thomas Livingston, Middle School Social Studies Teacher

Education and Experience: Mr. Livingston is in his first year at PTAA and joined the family because of the “good stuff he has been hearing from people about the plan behind the PTAA system.”  He teaches 6th, 7th, and 8th grade Social Studies and has been a Social Studies teacher and coach for the last 23 years, and he doesn’t plan to stop anytime soon! 

Mr. Livingston went to Stephen F. Austin State University where he received a degree in Criminal Justice and minor in communications.  He then went on to Texas A&M @ Commerce to obtain his teaching certification with an emphasis on History.  His career includes stops in Aransas Pass, Rockwall, Crandall, and most recently at St. Pius X Catholic School.  His wife of 18 years, Valerie, is also a teacher.  She is a K through 6 Music teacher at Jones Elementary in Rockwall ISD.  He has one son, Tommy III, who is 15 and a Freshman at Rockwall High School and plays competitive baseball. 

   

Marcus Smith, STEM Teacher

Education and Experience: Entering his 15th year of service in education, Marcus Smith stated, “I am excited to have the opportunity to join the PTAA - Greenville family!” Also, “My family and I believe Pioneer Technology and Arts Academy affords students of this area the opportunity and support needed to strive for excellence in academics and leadership.” He has worked with all ages ranging from K- 12th. Mr. Smith earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Kinesiology from the University of North Texas. He is STEM certified and enjoys creating projects in the classroom and in the P.E. gym.  Mr. Smith currently teaches grades K- 5th STEM and Physical Education for PTAA - Greenville. He also serves as PTAA - Greenville Athletic Director and Head Girls basketball, Cross Country and Track coach. He believes great success in sports starts with “Believing in the Process.” He stated, “Participating in sports builds leadership skills.”  In his free time he enjoys volunteering with his family, writing, singing, and of course catching up on anything sports related. Mr. Smith is married to Keiara Smith of 12 years. They share the joy of two children, Kalaiha and Israel Smith.   

 

 

Marjorie Fyffe, Middle School STEM Teacher

Education and Experience: Mrs. Fyffe received an Associate Degree in Web Development and Multimedia from Texas State Technical College as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Business with a minor in Education from Texas A&M - Commerce. Teaching since 2006, she joined the staff of Pioneer Technology & Arts Academy in 2016 as the STEM teacher. She is continuing her education with training from Project Lead the Way and Code.org. Mrs. Fyffe enjoys spending time with her family, and her numerous pets, is an avid reader, and loves to encourage free thinking and problem-solving solutions in life, as well as in her classroom, which her students can use when they enter the workforce.

He has a love for many languages and has taught Chinese Mandarin at CPS of CSD in Chicago, Illinois and DISD in Dallas, Texas since 2003. The goal of teaching is to inspire and cultivate his students to strive for their success as integrated learners and valuable global citizens in the future.

Education and Experience: Ms. Yu (yú l?o sh?) earned her Bachelor’s degree in Hunan, China and completed her Master’s of Education at Texas A&M University. She taught the Guzheng (Zither), a traditional Chinese instrument in China for several years and has taught Mandarin in Mesquite, Fate and now Greenville.  She is passionate about the interplay between language acquisition, music, and culture. She is a native speaker of Mandarin as well as several other Chinese dialects.

Education and Experience: Beth Hargrove earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a specialization in Sculpture and Time-Based Arts in 2012 from Sam Houston State University and her Master of Fine Arts in Studio Arts from Texas A&M University - Commerce. She has produced multiple solo and collaborative public performances as well as participating in juried, group, and solo exhibitions nationally and internationally. She has been featured in The Big Show at Lawndale Art Center in Houston, the VisVidFest at the University of Houston, The Center for Contemporary Art in Abilene, Texas, CICA Museum in Korea, and McLanahan Gallery in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Education and Experience: Hola! I am Amy Valenzuela and this is my 12th year of teaching. I will be teaching 3rd-5th grade Social Studies & Spanish here at PTAA. I grew up in the Rio Grande Valley in a bilingual culture speaking English and Spanish. Later, I moved to Houston and attended the University of Houston where I studied Early Childhood Education and received my degree. I then moved to Greenville and have made it my home here since. When I am not teaching, I enjoy family time and destination vacations with my husband, two sons, and two dogs. It is a wonderful pleasure to be a part of the PTAA family! I am happy to be here and I look forward to creating some new, wonderful, and fond memories!

Education and Experience: Mrs. Bowen has previously taught for RCISD and Meadow Oaks Academy. She started her teaching career four years ago. The first year Mrs. Bowen taught ELAR Resource at Herndon Intermediate. The past two she has taught all subjects for 5th grade at Meadow Oaks Academy. This year Mrs. Bowen is teaching science. This has always been her desire and she is thrilled to be teaching for PTAA.

Education and Experience: Aimee Lawson has taught 1st – 8th grades ELAR and science for the past twenty-five years.  Mrs. Lawson was raised and lived in Houston area for 37 years where she graduated high school from McCullough High School in The Woodlands in 1987 and graduated college from Sam Houston State University majoring in English in 1992.   She went on to teach at Spring ISD and Magnolia ISD where she was named teacher of the year in both school districts.  In 2004, she moved with her husband, Sean, and daughter, Hailey, to Frisco and later bought a horse ranch outside of Emory where she has taught in the area since. Mrs. Lawson came to PTAA from teaching 6th grade in Greenville.  She enjoys watching her daughter play college volleyball at Centenary, kayaking on Lake Fork with her daughter, walking her dogs and training foals in the Spring.

Education and Experience: In a world where most things are at our fingertips, Amanda’s teaching philosophy stems from critical thinking and problem-solving skills. She believes asking questions that inspire curiosity, and helping students dive deeper into their own thinking/problem solving which allows natural learning to take place. Amanda received her Master's in Education with emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction from Texas A & M Commerce. She has taught for 13 years as a classroom teacher, and Gifted and Talented curriculum. Her certifications include EC-4th, ESL K-12, Gifted and Talented K-12, Master’s Reading K-12, and Reading Specialist K-12.

Education and Experience: Mrs. Thornton began working with children in 1984 in Midland, Texas.  She has taught school in Midland, Austin, Odessa and Dallas, Texas.  Mrs. Thornton has 6 children, 3 girls and 3 boys.  She and her husband, Jeff, love to travel and have recently visited Alaska and Mount Rushmore.  They have two dogs, Bella and Cooper.  Ms. Thornton’s hobbies include reading and cooking.  Her favorite book is “The Scarlet Letter.”
